A root touch-up, or especially a complex balayage, means 2-4 hours of session time — at a salon, add the round trip and Bucharest traffic, plus dead time waiting between steps. At home, your appointment time is exactly when the session starts, with no lines and no time lost in traffic.

Comfort and privacy matter, especially for long sessions. While the lightener or toner works, you can work on your laptop, look after your kids, or simply relax in your own space — without the noise of a busy salon or conversations you didn't choose. For complex services lasting several hours, the difference is noticeable.

Root touch-up, full lightening, or balayage — what's the difference?

Not all coloring services require the same process, which is why we always discuss the right technique from the first conversation. A root touch-up covers only the natural regrowth at the root, to keep the same shade even along the full length — it's the fastest and gentlest option for your hair. Full lightening changes the shade drastically, usually toward a lighter tone, and requires longer processing times plus follow-up care treatments. Balayage is a freehand painting technique, applied directly to hand-selected strands. With no foil across the whole head, to achieve a natural color transition, lighter toward the ends. Because it demands precision and a trained eye for exactly where to apply each strand, balayage benefits the most from the uninterrupted attention you get in a home session.

How does a session at home work? Step by step

• 1. Hair diagnosis and color consultation. Before I start, I assess the elasticity, porosity, and current condition of your hair, we discuss the shade you want, and we settle on the right technique — root touch-up, full lightening, or balayage with a natural color transition.
• 2. Application technique. Depending on what you've chosen, I apply the dye to the roots, work the technique for covering grey and changing shade, or, for balayage, I freehand-lighten only the chosen strands with a brush, so the color transition stays natural rather than banded. I always respect the exact processing times recommended by the manufacturer — never rushed, never exceeded.
• 3. Washing and post-color treatment. You rinse at your own sink or in the shower, quick and easy, while I guide you through it and keep track of the timing. I then recommend care products and a treatment suited to your hair type.
• 4. Drying, styling, and final touches. The session ends with drying and a quick styling, for hair finished exactly as it would be at a salon.

What do you need to prepare before the stylist arrives?

Very little. You need a comfortable chair, a towel, access to a nearby outlet, and a bathroom for washing. I bring everything else: professional equipment, Wella and Londa Professional dyes and lighteners, and all the styling tools needed.

How long does a session at home take?

It depends on the technique. A simple root touch-up takes 1.5-2.5 hours on average, including processing time, rinsing, and final styling. A complex balayage, with lightening on multiple strands and fine color transitions, can take 3-4 hours, especially if starting from previously uncolored hair. At the first appointment, we discuss exactly what you want to achieve, so I can estimate the duration correctly and not rush you through the process.
