How Often Should You Get a Haircut? A Guide for Women and Men

Maintenance haircut at home: trimming the ends of straight hair with scissors

In short

  • Men: every 3–5 weeks for short cuts, every 5–8 weeks for longer hair.
  • Women: every 6–10 weeks, depending on the shape and length.
  • Signs it’s time: the cut no longer sits right, the ends are dry or split, styling takes longer.
  • Regular visits are easier at home and, for 4 people, can be cheaper too with the Gentlemen’s Deal or Ladies’ Deal.

“How often should I get a haircut?” is one of the questions I hear most. The short answer: it depends on the cut, your hair length and how much it matters to you that the shape stays sharp. Below are the intervals I usually work with.

Men: how many weeks?

  • Short cuts, fades, clean outlines: every 3–4 weeks. On the short sides, a few extra millimetres show right away.
  • Classic, medium-length cuts: every 4–5 weeks, so the shape doesn’t get lost.
  • Longer hair: every 5–8 weeks, mainly for the ends and to keep the shape.

Many of my clients book every 2–3 weeks, precisely because they want their haircut to always look like day one.

Women: how many weeks?

  • Bob, pixie and other short cuts: every 6–8 weeks. On a short cut, a few centimetres of growth visibly change the shape, so you notice it’s time for a trim sooner than with long hair.
  • Medium hair with layers: every 8–10 weeks, so the layers stay visible and the hair doesn’t get heavy.
  • Long hair you’re growing out: still every 8–10 weeks, just for the ends. That way it grows healthy, without breaking.

Signs it’s time for a haircut

  • Your cut no longer sits right, however you style it.
  • The ends are dry, rough or split.
  • Your morning styling takes longer than usual.
  • For men, the outline at the neck and around the ears is no longer clean.

How to make your haircut last longer

  • Use heat protection with straighteners and hair dryers.
  • Dry your hair by pressing it with the towel, not rubbing.
  • For long hair, a moisturising mask once a week helps the ends.
  • Tell me at the appointment how much time you spend on your hair in the morning, so I can choose a shape that grows out well.

Regular haircuts, without the trip to the salon

The hardest part of regular haircuts is finding the time. At home, the appointment takes exactly as long as the haircut: 30–45 minutes for men, 45–60 minutes for women, with no travel and no waiting. A men’s haircut costs 80 lei and a women’s haircut 140 lei, with travel included within the coverage area.

If several of you get a haircut at the same address on the same day, check the special offers: the Gentlemen’s Deal (4 men’s haircuts, 71 lei per person), the Ladies’ Deal (4 women’s haircuts, 125 lei per person) or the Family Deal, for families, on any service. For little ones, see the guide to kids’ haircuts at home.

Frequently asked questions

No. Hair grows from the root, and cutting doesn’t change the pace. Regular trims do help hair grow healthy, without broken ends.

Yes, but small ones: just the ends, every 8–10 weeks. That way you gain length instead of losing it to breakage.

A men’s haircut takes 30–45 minutes and a women’s haircut 45–60 minutes.

Yes, if you’re at the same address. For 4 men’s or 4 women’s haircuts there are the Gentlemen’s Deal and the Ladies’ Deal, and for families, the Family Deal.
